VERSES: New Covenant

“COVENANT” [διαθηκη]— “a disposition, arrangement, of any sort, which one wishes to be valid, the last disposition which one makes of his earthly possessions after his death, a testament or will / a compact, a covenant, a testament” (used 33 times in the Greek; The KJV translates 14 of these as “testament,” but almost all the new translations use “covenant” instead, more accurate to our modern vernacular, and more consistent in translations (since the SAME Greek word should be translated the SAME way as long as context doesn’t suggest Old Testament otherwise; and because the word testament narrows the meaning too much
[Merriam-Webster=”the legal instructions in which you say who should receive your property, possessions, etc., after you die”]; by contrast, covenant is more generic, and can also mean a testament.).

Matthew 26:28—for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Mark 14:24—And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.”

Luke 22:20—And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.”

1 Corinthians 11:25—In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
[
NOTE: The life is in the blood, and it is as though Christ’s Blood is what gave life to the New Covenant, and brings life to those who keep this covenant of grace.]

Romans 11:27…and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.

2 Corinthians 3:6…Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

2 Corinthians 3:14But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.

Galatians 3:15Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.
ESV: To give a human example, brothers: even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified.

Galatians 3:17And this I say, that the law, which was 430 years later, cannot annul the Covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect.
ESV: This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.

Galatians 4:24[These] things are symbolic [allegories]. For these are the two Covenants: the one from Mount Sinai which gives birth to bondage [slavery], which is Hagar…

Ephesians 2:12…remember that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the Covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

Hebrews 7:22…by so much more Jesus has become a surety [guarantor] of a better covenant.

Hebrews 8:6-10
6—But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
7—For if that first [Covenant] had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
8—Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
9—”not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD.
10—”For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
13—In that He says, “A new Covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 9:1—Then indeed, even the first Covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary.

 Hebrews 9:1518
15And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
16—For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17—For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives.
18—Therefore not even the first Covenant was dedicated without blood.

Hebrews 10:16—”This is the Covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them”…

Hebrews 10:29—Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

Hebrews 12:24—…and to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

Hebrews 13:20Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant…

Revelation 11:19Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings, an earthquake, and great hail.
